Hi Everyone,

Bunny and I are now in BC for the summer, and tomorrow we are taking our Boler (Glass Egg 17ft) over to Fort Langley for the long weekend.  Here in Canada, this weekend is Queen Victoria’s Birthday, a 4 day holiday.  Fort Langley is along the Fraser River, and the meet is setup for 50 Trailers.  Last year was our first time and we had a lot of fun, meeting new people with other trailers.  The meet is twice a year, May & Sept.  Fort Langley is only about 30 miles from us, so we will leave in the morning, pullng the Boler with our truck, because everything is not finished to pull with the 39, maybe for our next trip/cruise.  Loading our 3 dogs and a cat.  They all travel with us, and love it.  We will be meeting up with Doug & Sandy, I believe some of you met them last year at Seaside.  They have a little black and white 13 ft. Trillium and we will be parked facing each other.  We do have a partial photo of our trailer with the car in the photo section under Bunny & Charlotte’s  39 if you would like to look at it.  Thats all for now will write more later…

With everything packed Thursday, just had to load the food, menagerie and squeeze us in (to our old Chevy beater truck…brakes on the ’39 not up to snuff yet and since it’sa trailer meet,  vehicle not important) and we’re off.

Its a beautiful spring day, everything is green, the sun is warm and as its a weekday, traffic is light. The shortest route to the RV park is west along the Lougheed Hwy. a picturesque provincial 2 laner through a couple of small burgs and to the ferry slip. After a 1 sail wait (the 2 ships that handle the traffic hold about 30 or so vehicles) we take the 10 minute free ride across the north arm of the Fraser River, drive a mile and we’re at the Ft. Langley RV Park situated on a south arm of the river. The hosts have reserved 40 sites for our group  in a wooded area with full service at each space. We’re sharing a large pull thru space with our friends, the Magers. Friday is set up and get acquainted day and  all afternoon rigs keep puling in as old and new friends are greeted again. Every meet, half the entrants are ‘regulars’  and new owners make up the rest of the party. Just like car shows, most of the fun here is seeing new trailers, changes some have made and new items to adorn them. Once set up with all our Route 66 items in place, we were happy to show everyone through our 17′ Boler and receive many compliments for our display. By early evening, over 40 trailers were assembled, most are the 13′ Bolers, then come the 13′ Trilliums, some new models called the Escape, a 17′ beauty  being made here, an old Airstream, an old tent trailer and a few other odd ball types. The hi-lite of the meet was an ‘under-construction’ 17′ Boler a young couple had rescued from the Thompson River. High water had swept this unit off the banks and being fiberglass, it just floated away. The related owner told them if they could retrieve it, they could have it, and they did. To date, they have rrestored the shell, replaced all the appliances and have it primed, ready for paint. After burgers and salad dinner, we all gathered  around a couple of propane fired campfires and gabbed the night away. Saturday morning, most of us toddle over to the park cafe where Dennis serves up a huge bacon/egg/pancake breakfast with all the trimmings including OJ and coffee for $5, good but almost too much! Across the river is the historic town of Ft. Langley where settlers lived in an army fort in the 1700′s. Most of the original buildings are preserved and on view to visitors along with a huge array of antiques. The one street town is also a popular spot on weekends as tourists wander through the shops, cafes and collectible stores looking for bargains. The Fort Hotel overlooking the river is another busy spot with small novelty shops inside and a  Pub that serves good food and grog. We took a short drive over to the Fort winery where a quaint new/old log building sits in a rustic country setting surrounded by the vineyards. After sampling their latest libations, we bought a few bottles of their cranberry wine and returned to the park. Our hosts this weekend, Miles and Caroline had arranged a wine a cheese party and we all chipped in some finger food. The assortment was delicious and lots of it. In the Goody Bag we received when we registered, was a coupon and Caroline drew numbers while Miles handed out some really nice prizes. Doug had made up some awards that were presented next and we got ‘Long Distance’ as we had just arrived from Oregon that week! Lotsof fun and laughs. We donated a custom dash plaques showing and array of trailers at a treed site, a 1st for this group and sure to be an ongoing item. About 6pm, Sandy  takes our order and has the local pizza and pasta shop deliver it right to our picnic table. By now you’ve figured out all we do is eat drink and chat, but its fun and each year, more attend. Just before bedtime, we thanked our hosts, discussed the next meet, set a date and named new hosts. Sunday morn is overcast but tolerable and we scoff another ‘Big Breakfast and gab over coffee. We say goodbye to everybody in between packing up and by 1pm, the park is almost empty. its a nice sunny afternoon as we ferry across the river and cruise toward home. Another great weekend with  friends and Char’s scrapbook will remind us of all that were there and the good time we had and that’s what its all about!!!

If you would like to see all the Bolers, and other trailers that come to the meets, you can see them here.
