For a winter get-away, we decided to look into the So. San Francisco Rod & Custom Show and mailed off an entry. I’d been to this event (under different names) about 3 times but not since ’99. We received a confirmation so made reservations at the host hotel. A week later, Rick Perry, the head man, called to say we were selected, relocated to the main concourse and given a 20’X20’ end space…seems a Tommy Carr car rates!
For 2 weeks, the I-5 was closed or chains needed to travel. The day before leaving, we had thought we’d have to go the coast route but at 7am Wed. it was open with no restrictions. We left early and hi-balled it all the way on dry roads with little traffic arriving in the Bay area at 5pm and went right to the Embassy Suites (host) hotel. Beautiful place, lots of parking so we checked in and headed for the 100 year old, Cow Palace.
Thanks to our new GPS, we drove right to the arena and got in line. Inside, vendor trailers were in our space, another entrant couldn’t start his car (rule #1, must drive in) so we sat. It was 7pm when we unloaded in the ‘tunnel’ , put our ’40 inside and dumped off our display stuff. No sooner than our car was off the trailer and parked, a scruffy guy on a scooter sidled up and handed me a pink card…at 1st I thought he was begging a handout, (I’m a senior eh, a little tired and slow at times) I hesitated and he then gave me an envelope which said ‘Entry- Blackie Gejeian’s Show in Fresno, Ca. I am delighted, what an honor and all I could think of was “Scotty Ivers says to say ‘Hello”.
